The Heidelberg Christmas Market

Posted on Thursday, October 12, 2017

The Heidelberg Christmas Market is one of the most beautiful Christmas
Markets in Europe. There are photos of Heidelberg and Karlsplatz
in Christmastime taken to describe European Christmas Markets in general...

Visualize the most beautiful ice rink in Germany against one of the most romantic backdrops in the world while holding your significant other's hand while ice skating. Did you know that the ice rink in Karlsplatz Square is not an ice rink at all? It's a crossing with fountains that freezes over during winter and is used temporarily as an ice rink from November 26th thru January 4th. Ice skating at Karlsplatz for up to 90 minutes is 2.50 Euros per adult and 2.00 Euros per child. And if you happen to not own a pair of ice skates, you can rent them at 2.60 Euros.

Ice Skating Schedule (11.25 - 01.04)

  • Daily From 10am - 10pm

  • Closed On Christmas

  • Dec 26th From 12pm - 10pm

  • New Year's Eve From 10am - 1am

With thousands of stars twinkling in the trees... hundreds of booths sprawling across five city squares... and an ice rink glistening in the shadow of Heidelberger Schlöss... you'll think you've stepped inside a snowglobe at this shining Weihnachtsmarkt! Festooned with figures from the city's history, the glowing Christmas Pyramid dominates the Marktplatz. On the Universitätsplatz, a carousel turns, and the scent of almonds and glühwein fills the air. You can skate to holiday tunes at the rink on the Karlsplatz... hunt for crafts at the Anatomiegarten... or stroll past the crèche on the Kornmarkt. You'll also take a funicular to the medieval Old Town for a walking tour and lunch at the Hotel Zum Ritter St. Georg, and explore iconic Heidelberger Schlöss (Heidelberg Castle).
