Arrive in London, England. (Mon.) Uniformed Globus Hosts are available to help you make the most of your stay.
Day 3:
London–Cambridge–York. (Tue.) After a hearty English breakfast, meet your Tour Director and traveling companions at 8 am, and depart for a day of northbound travel. Take a break in the beautiful university city of Cambridge, one of the country’s oldest seats of learning. In York, England’s most complete medieval city, stand in awe in front of the great structure of the Minster, then follow your Tour Director through a maze of quaint streets, including the narrow Shambles. Tonight, enjoy a welcome dinner at your hotel. (B,D)
Day 4:
York–Jedburgh, Scotland–Edinburgh. (Wed.) First today, inspect a section of Hadrian’s Wall, the Roman coast-to-coast defense against marauding northern tribes. Vistas of wild Northumberland National Park on the way to the Scottish border, then Jedburgh Abbey ruins and glimpses of the house of Mary, Queen of Scots before a fascinating guided visit to Sir Walter Scott’s ABBOTSFORD HOUSE. Overnight in Edinburgh, the “Prince of Cities.” A unique optional experience: board the former Royal Yacht Britannia, once the perfect royal residence for the Queen’s glittering state visits and family holidays. Tour five decks and see how the Royal Family and crew of 240 lived and worked on board. Dinner rounds off this optional evening. (B)
Day 5:
Edinburgh–Lake District, England–Chester. (Thu.) Morning city sightseeing with a Local Guide introduces you to the 200-year-old “New Town” and famous scientists, inventors, and novelists. In the “Old Town,” drive up the narrow Royal Mile to EDINBURGH CASTLE to admire Scotland’s Crown Jewels. On the way through the history-steeped Lowland Hills, visit GRETNA GREEN, where the blacksmith used to wed runaway couples. In the tranquil Lake District, often considered the finest of England’s national parks, take a break in Wordsworth’s beloved Grasmere. Spend the night at Chester, the historic walled city on the River Dee. (B,D)
Day 6:
Chester–Stratford-upon-Avon–London. (Fri.) On this morning’s Chester walking tour, see the Roman remains, the black and white half-timbered buildings, and the two-tiered arcades called the “Rows.” In Stratford-upon-Avon, take your photos of Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, visit SHAKESPEARE’S BIRTHPLACE, and stroll through the picturesque town. Skirting the Cotswold Hills, return to London around 4 pm. (B)

Cruise Extension WI, 3 nights
Day 1 Arrival in Innsbruck, Austria. (Sun.) Transfers from Nuremberg port, Munich airport, or by scenic Railjet Train from Switzerland to Innsbruck are available. At 6 pm, meet your Avalon Host for a welcome briefing at the hotel.

Day 3 Garmisch Area-Oberammergau. (Tue.) The morning is free to explore on your own, or you may take an optional excursion to visit one of King Ludwig II of Bavaria’s castles. After an early lunch, transfer to Oberammergau for the highlight of the vacation: the original PASSION PLAY. Dinner will be served during intermission. Day 4 Garmisch Area-Munich. (Wed.) This morning, depart for Germany’s lively city—Munich. Transfer to Munich Airport is available. If you are continuing on one of Avalon’s cruises starting in Nuremberg, an afternoon transfer will take you to your ship for embarkation. Meal: (B)

Discount for young travelers
Share the pleasure of a Globus vacation with your children and grandchildren and take advantage of a 10-percent discount on the land-only price. For eligibility, children must be under 18 years of age on the departure date and must be accompanied by an adult. On escorted vacations we don’t accept children under eight years old because we have found that they are too young to enjoy these vacations.
Pay less for your second vacation
We charge you vacation price for your first vacation in 2008, but for every additional Globus vacation you take in the same year, you pay US$35 under list. Our vacations are designed and scheduled so you can combine them almost any way you want. It’s fun to play the add-a-vacation game yourself or talk to your travel agent.
Triple room reduction
On most Globus vacations you receive a reduction when three people travel together and share the same accommodations. Triple room reductions, when available, are listed on the itinerary pages. A word of caution: Triple rooms usually are no larger than twin rooms and the third bed, if there is one, is often a rollaway put in a twin-bedded room.
Avoid the single room supplement
We do not take reservations on a “share” basis because we have found that strangers rarely enjoy sharing a room for the duration of their vacation. Avoid the single room supplement by traveling with a friend. It’s less expensive and much more fun!
